The Gulf of Mexico and surrounding areas are likely to be affected for decades because of the BP oil spill. New Orleans even more issues consider the towboat, Pere Ana C, hit an oil rig and created one more oil spill, reports the Associated Press. The boat hit the Louisiana marshland which happened to have a wellhead inside it. MSNBC reports that Plaquemines Parish President Nungesser explains oil is shooting within the air right about now.
The well is south of New Orleans
Along the border of Plaquemines Parish and Jefferson Parish is the well which is about 65 miles south of New Orleans. The area is a marsh not accessible via roads. Oil from the Deepwater Horizon disaster within the Gulf of Mexico was being moved meaning there were already workers in Barataria Bay. The owner of the newly damaged well is currently unknown. Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts explains that there is quite a bit of oil coming from the Pere Ana C. collision. It is still unknown how much of the oil is leaking or how it can be cleaned up considering the area is only accessed by boat. There is a concern that natural gas can be leaking with the oil since some gas clouds are reported within the area recently.
Mud Lake is near the area where Pere Ana C. hit
Mud Lake was the approximate location of the Pere Ana C. collision early Tuesday morning. The Coast Guard ship went to the LaRose area after this happened. There have been no injuries reported yet. Authorities are trying to find someone that is responsible to clean up all of this oil that is causing disaster. Hopefully cleaning up this won’t cost nearly as much as Deepwater Horizon cost BP.
